This is the middle “boy” in a series of three. The “Golden Boys” series began, as a concept, with my observations of White Male Privilege (these men are ordinary guys who don’t realise that so much of what they achieve is because they already have the best advantages), but as I painted the pieces they became something that I feel more strongly: a celebration of maleness. I have sons, a husband, father, brothers, male cousins, uncles, male friends, male family friends.. and many men who are no longer with us who have influenced me positively and there is so much to celebrate.
For the bodies of these guys I mixed metallic gold paint with a variety of colours to get some really interesting hues and effects, these I painted as loosely as I could over my strong drawings of the male nude, drawn from life. I then tidied up the edges, added the expressive outlines in acrylic paint and the joyful swirls of permanent acrylic ink washes – these hark back to my watercolour painting days, watercolour is my happy medium, and I’m so glad to have found a permanent lightfast alternative to share with my customers.
Painted in professional quality Acrylics on quality Canvas, Golden Boy I is the same size as Golden Boy II, dimensions: 84 x 45 cm
