Hummingbird Hawk Moth

Description

I found this moth in the archive drawers at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, they let me borrow it so that I could paint it.  He’s a little beauty, and while he’s camouflaged to go well with tree bark and lichen, he packs some gorgeous colour in his underwings, they remind me of marigold petals. This fella goes well with Burnished Brass Moth, they are the same size and framed in matching frames.

Painted accurately in rich earthy colours, this is a watercolour painting on professional watercolour paper (Coldpress), dimensions, including frame: 27 x 23 cm

Framed Watercolour: Hummingbird Hawk Moth
